Blame the snow?

Am I allowed to just say "I agree with Anthony" and leave it at that?

It is, in fact, the middle of February. The solitude and lethargy that come from 2 weeks trapped inside due to snow have driven me to Winter Madness, which must be the reason I agreed to do a triathlon despite the fact that I haven't swum a lap in my life and I'm terrified of riding my bike outside. But all that will change! (I hope)

I start adult swimming lessons tomorrow night - I'm sure they will be as embarrassing as they are educational, but considering I had to Google "how many swimming laps is 750 meters?", I definitely need professional help in the pool.

Luckily I inherited my parents' cycling gene (although it didn't kick in until about a year ago) and am a Spinning champ. In all of my classes, I am by far the best at staring intensely in the mirror and wiping my forehead with a towel even though I never sweat. Once the snow clears and the bike path becomes visible again, I'll have to work on overcoming my outdoor biking fears, but surely there are a few weeks before that happens.

Julia and I did a 10k back in September and ever since then I've convinced myself I'm a competitive runner. I already have two 5k's, an 8k, a 10k, and a 10-miler on the docket for this spring, so now I just need to find out what happens when I try running after using my legs for something else first.

If nothing else, my anxieties about drowning or falling off my bicycle are enough motivation to get to the gym every day until May 9th!

Let's do this!

It's the middle of February. It's cold. I'm in okay-but-could-definitely-be-better shape.

I have signed up for the Kinetic Sprint Triathlon in Spotsylvania, VA on May 09, 2010. I am enrolled as a novice, as it will be my first official triathlon. I'm nervous, but confidant knowing that I have friends that will be going through this with me.

We have 10 weeks to get our swim strokes down, our cycles in check, and our running form in order. I am enrolled in a 10-week triathlon training class at the Adirondack Club in Franklin, MA (home of the nation's first public library).

Two weeks ago, I got in the pool for the first time ever as a serious swimmer. I am managing okay, but can only swim 75 yards without stopping.

I have been going to cycling classes for about 4 months now, and have also invested in me by buying the shoes (I really just wanted to fit in with all the other soccer moms in the class.) I can cycle well, and just need to continue going to the classes, and practice actual road work when the temperatures rise a little.

I can run a 5K on the treadmill in 30:30, and wish to get that time down to 27:00 by May. I know that I will also need to start training outside when the weather gets better. But enough of this "later" B.S. I'ma start this now!
